Tai Chi is a martial art with its roots in China. Its movements are structured, smooth, even, slow, and continuous. The practice promotes calmness, lightness, slowness, exactness and perseverance. It can be practiced for health purposes, as a defense system, or a way to focus and calm the mind.

Tai Chi practice relaxes the body and focuses the mind. Tai Chi movement is performed slowly–accentuating intention and precision of motion. Mentally and spiritually, the practice of Tai Chi improves awareness and confidence. Physically, Tai Chi practice brings about constant improvement in balance, coordination, agility, flexibility, sensitivity and strength.

The practice of Tai Chi has been shown to significantly improve a practitioner's strength, balance, and cardiovascular function and effectiveness. Other recognized benefits of Tai Chi are improved quality of sleep, improved digestive and cognitive functions, stress reduction and prevention of arthritis or osteoporosis.

Each Tai Chi class includes Qi Gong meditation exercises. Qi Gong, spelled Chi Kung or Qi Gung, is an ancient Chinese art of increasing the internal chi energy within the body. It is the development of an internal power to improve health, maintain youthfulness and perfect mental powers. It is called an internal aerobics.
